COLUMBIA — In a state among the worst in the nation in incidents of domestic violence, Statehouse lawmakers have taken a step toward teaching young people how to avoid such behavior.The South Carolina Senate passed legislation this week that would allow minors as young as 16 to get a court order of protection — without their parents’ consent — when they are victims of domestic violence.The Travis County Commissioners Court and the City of Austin designated February as "Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month" and urged all youth and adults to join in conversations about non-violent and safe relationships.Read more October 05, 2016 October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.Additionally, the bill, which was approved unanimously, would create a dating violence education program for the state’s middle and high schools. May 24 and 25, at 7pm Level Up: An Epic Relationship Adventure, tracks the journey of 4 teens who find one another and “create a new game” to escape their problems.
Love Shouldn’t Be, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Advocacy Project and SAFE have partnered with school districts in Travis, Bastrop, Hays and Williamson counties to prevent domestic violence and promote safe and healthy relationships.
It would even be a great program to implement for teens that need community service for school, as they would be doing a great service to the community in bringing assistance and awareness about TDV. Love Speaks Out works to engage and educate teens about speaking out against TDV and to have more positive relationships.
